Hearing comprehension 16

We propose you a hearing comprehension exercise. We're going to give you a paragraph every week (Mondays) to practice with it. Try to understand every single word. We advise you to write it, as if it were a dictation. You can send us your writtings here below clicking in 'comments'. We'll give you the right answer the following week. Try it!

Here is the transcription to the last week listening:
Don't expect María to follow your advice. I've known her for ages and she's never once followed any advice of mine. She´s pathologically independent and likes to assert this fact. When she needs to make an important decision, she often consults a lot of people, but she usually ends up designing her own solution.

ESL - English as Second Language - Podcast 12 - Dining at a Restaurant I (Fast)

Well, I love going out to restaurants to eat. One of the best experiences I've had recently was at a place here in Los Angeles called Il Fornaio. It's an Italian restaurant in a very nice part of Beverly Hills. I don't go there very often--I can't really afford it, but every once in a while I'll treat myself.

It wasn't supposed to rain today. Now how am I going to get to my car without getting soaked to the bone? What time is our next meeting? If we have time, I'd rather wait until the storm blows over before crossing the street to the parking lot. In fact, I'd rather arrive late for the meeting than walk in soaking wet.

Weekly quotation from La Teacher

ESL - English as Second Language - Podcast 1 - Introduction

ESLPodcast is designed especially for people who are intermediate or advanced speakers of English, but want to improve their listening and speaking skills. These podcasts are always free. There will be many different topics for our podcasts. We try to talk about topics that you will find interesting. All of our podcasts use “real English”—the normal, everyday English you will find among native speakers in the United States. ESLPodcast is not a textbook or a course. It is a way to listen to real native speakers talking as they do everyday in English. ESL Podcast tries to provide you with English you can understand. We speak at a slightly slower rate, but always use normal, native speaker English to help you improve. Every Sunday we'll be posting a new article. It's funny you say that. Just two weeks ago I was talking with a friend about the same question and he said exactly the same thing you did: Johson is going to be fired by the board of directors in the next board meeting. If the two of you are right, then I won't sell my shares yet. With Johnson out the picture, I'm sure the stock price will go up.

Do you really think they're going to believe that story? Why don't you just tell them the truth? They'll realize that you're human after all and will probably forgive you. Besides, we all forget meetings or appointments at some point, so why should you be different? The only difference here is that it wasn't just any appointment. It was your own wedding.

-         Schindler’s list (1993)
-         Star Wars (1977)

Try to say it. It's not that difficult.

The shells that she sells
are seashells, I'm sure.
So, if she sells shells on the seashore,
I'm sure the shells she sells
are seashore shells.

Here is the transcription to the last week listening:
As the policeman approached the shopping center to check on a shoplifting incident, he noticed a man with several plastic bags walking quickly toward a parked car. He ordered the man to stop, shouting the order three times. Finally he pulled out his gun and shot him dead. The man never heard the policeman's order because he was a student at the local school for the deaf.
