Vaug Class 33 - Short answers (negativo)

Short answers (Negativo) Ahora pasamos al negativo. Una vez más, la clave para contestar correctamente está en el verbo auxiliar utilizado en la pregunta. Si oyes "do" en la pregunta, contesta ".don't". Si oyes "does", emplea "doesn't". Muy fácil! ¿Haces flexiones todos los días? Do you do press-ups every day? No, I don't. ¿Siempre se corta afeitándose? Does he always cut himself shaving? No, he doesn't. ¿El tren se atascó en un banco de nieve? Did the train get stuck in a snow-drift? No, it didn't. ¿Aran los campos en el mes de mayo? Do they plough the fields in the month of May? No, they don't. ¿Dió a luz en el taxi camino del hospital? Did she give birth in the taxi on the way to the hospital? No, she didn't. No estamos hablando de un aspecto del inglés complicado pero sí importante. Por ser tan simple, muchas personas que tienen un alto nivel de inglés se traicionan al equivocarse de verbo auxiliar. Merece la pena practicarlo. ¿Llegarán a la cumbre sin oxígeno? Will they make it to the summit without oxygen? No, they won't. ¿Podemos confiarle unas responsabilidades tan exigentes? Can she be trusted with such demanding responsibilities? No, she can't. ¿Deberíamos excluirle por hacer trampa? Should he be ruled out for cheating? No, he shouldn't. ¿Podrías barajar las cartas con los ojos cerrados? Could you shuffle the cards with your eyes closed? No, I couldn't. ¿Venderá la cantera cuando se jubile? Will he sell the quarry when he retires? No, he won't.

Repasa estos cuatro puntos del Vaughan Review para aumentar tu vocabulario.  Truco: para aprender una palabra nueva, repítela hasta la saciedad. Key Learning: La contracción del "it is"" es igual que la de "it has". En a ambos casos decimos "it's". It's never snowed in July.  Nunca ha nevado en Julio. One expression: I’m fed up! ¡Estoy harto! One phrasal verb: To pass out - desmayarse Liz passed out because of the heat. Liz se desmayó debido al calor. One adjective: Touching - Conmovedor. His farewell speech was quite touching. Short answers (To be) Vamos a dedicar una página al verbo "to be". Si hacemos una pregunta básica con el verbo "to be", la forma más rápida de contestar también requiere el verbo "to be". Presta atención a la primera palabra de la pregunta para reutilizarla en la respuesta. Pero, ¡ojo cuando tienes que contestar en primera persona! ¿La mayoría de los alumnos universitarios están endeudados? Are most university students overdrawn? Yes, they are. ¿Andorra está lejos de Albacete? Is Andorra far from Albacete? Yes, it is. ¿Eres medio inglés, medio italiano? Are you half-English, half-Italian? No, I'm not. ¿Estaba más lejos de lo que pensabas? Was it further than you thought? Yes, it was. ¿Había muchos mendigos en el mitin? Were there many tramps at the convention? No, there weren't. Recuerda que el verbo "to be" también se emplea en los tiempos verbales continuos y para formar la voz pasiva. Para contestar de la manera más corta en estos casos sólo tienes que fijarte en el verbo "to be". ¿Él está arreglando su salón? Is he doing up his lounge? Yes, he is. ¿El tesoro fue descubierto por los arqueólogos? Was the treasure found by the archaeologists? Yes, it was. ¿Se canceló el partido debido al tiempo? Was the match called off on account of the weather? No, it wasn't. ¿Vas a hacer las paces con él? Are you going to make it up with him? Yes, I am. ¿Estaban comiendo el plato principal cuando irrumpió la policía? Were they eating their main course when the Police burst in? Yes, they were.
